Wallkill Rail Trail in Autumn

Wallkill is one of the substantial hamlets in the Town of Shawangunk. The town takes its name from the stunning river that flows northeasterly through a large portion of Ulster County and, along with the Shawangunks, provides lovely views to town residents.

Hamlet residents are served by the Wallkill Central School District, comprised of three elementary schools, one  middle school and one high school.

Outdoor enthusiasts can choose from a wealth of facilities, including two town parks: Popp Memorial, a five-acre neighborhood park with a pavilion, barbecue pit and Wallkill River access; and Garrison Park, a one-acre community park with a playground and basketball court. Additional Wallkill attractions include the scenic Walden-Wallkill Rail Trail, for walking, jogging, bicycling and dog walking. Visitors and residents will also not want to miss the original dairy family’s Borden Farm; the Wallkill River, a paddler’s delight; and the Magnanini Winery, part of the Shawangunk Wine Trail, and its events held throughout the year.
