The hamlet of Tillson provides a mix of newer suburban-style, older country properties, and everything in between; something for everyone in this beautiful corner of Ulster County. This community is especially convenient for residents affiliated with the main office of the Ulster County BOCES. Adjacent to the towns of Esopus and New Paltz, residents also enjoy easy access to the businesses and other amenities of those communities.
The most iconic landmark in the area is the historic Perrines Covered Bridge, which crosses the Wallkill River and provides a boat launch into the north-flowing water. As with the other communities in Rosendale, Tillson is also close to the picturesque hamlet of High Falls, home to a major stop along the original D&H Canal. The historic remnants of the canal locks, including a treasure of a canal history museum and Five Locks Walk, a National Historic Landmark, draws tourists who have also encouraged the growth of quaint restaurants and antique shops, art galleries, and a summer weekend flea market.
